UPDATE: Suspect arrested in armed robbery of coffee shop on Route 18 in Abington

An armed robbery at a Marylou’s coffee shop on Route 18 in Abington Thursday morning is apparently under investigation – and now WATD-FM has learned that the suspect is in custody and the stolen car used as a get-away vehicle has been recovered.

A District Manager for the local coffee chain confirmed that the robbery took place during the morning hours, and that a small amount of cash was taken, but that no employee’s were injured.

WATD’s Trisha McNeilly, while reporting from the scene witnessed the employee’s who appeared to be shaken up leaving the store for the day. She says she also spotted a Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Deputy dusting the store counter for finger prints. The detective is a member of the county’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

There were unconfirmed reports that the white male suspect, or suspects, who brandished a silver knife, fled the scene in a stolen 2003 blue Dodge Neon, which had reportedly been stolen from Whitman the day before.

WATD’s Steven Dodrill reports atleast one suspect was arrested and the vehicle used to flee the scene was recovered in Brockton on Belair Street late Thursday afternoon. Dodrill reports the suspect is also considered a suspect in a robbery in Weymouth earlier in the morning on Thursday.

Whitman and Abington officials have not returned a call seeking comment.
