It allows community officials to go before their colleagues to represent private interests without any conflict of interest.
Now Abington is poised to extend so-called “special municipal employee status” in town.
Town Moderator Shawn Reilly already enjoys it, and at Monday night’s selectmen’s meeting, it’s expected to be approved for the School Building Committee, as well as the Summer Concerts and Tricentennial boards.
Massachusetts ethics laws still apply to officials who have the special status, but it permits them to appear before another board as long as they don’t control it.
Abington selectmen will meet at Town Hall 6:30 p.m., and WATD will be there.
