An autopsy is pending, but authorities say the death of a man on a Boston Harbor Island appears to be accidental.
The Plymouth D.A.’s office told WATD that William E. Bryan III of Whitman, who had been drinking with a group of people, fell down the elevator shaft of the quartermaster’s building on Peddocks Island, off the coast of Hull, Friday night.
The 35-year-old had been given a tour of the island by an unidentified D.C.R. employee who is its caretaker, and is now reportedly on unpaid leave.
The island is closed to the public during the winter.
