Marshfield: Fire in boat-yard damages, destroys several boats

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of an overnight fire at a Marshfield boat yard that destroyed 3 boats and damaged 4 others, causing the evacuation of nearby homes.

When fire crews first arrived on scene about at about 12:16 a.m., Marshfield Fire Chief Kevin Robinson says crews called for a first alarm after finding heavy fire showing from two 30-foot boats with six other boats nearby in the Taylor Marina storage yard on Central Street.

Robinson says the call went to 2 alarms after the fire extended to four other boats and threatened nearby homes on Cherry Street. He says the coordinated fire attack held the fire to the boat storage area  and no homes were damaged.

The fire, which caused heavy smoke, because of the burning fiberglass boats is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Marshfield Fire Department.
