NHL: Lockout costs Boston businesses millions

(AP) — The National Hockey League’s labor dispute is costing bars and restaurants near the TD Garden as much as $1 million for every Bruins home game that’s canceled.

The Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau says the business impact extends beyond the hospitality industry, with parking lots, equipment and souvenir shops and other businesses losing money with the NHL’s third work stoppage in 19 years.

Stanhope Garage Inc., which operates three small parking lots near the Garden, typically takes in $6,000 per game by filling all of its 200 spaces. Revenue from 22 Bruins home games have already been lost.
