Members of the Whitman firefighters union local 1769 made a special presentation this weekend to a 4-year old girl involved in a pedestrian accident earlier this year.

A gathering was held yesterday morning at the Whitman Fire Department to give Kiera Crawford a bicycle for Christmas.  Crawford and 38 year old Edward Cordwell were struck by a pickup truck on September 9th while crossing Temple Street in Whitman.

She was riding her bike when the fatal accident occurred.  Keira sustained some minor injuries, but Cordwell was killed and her bicycle was wrecked. According to Union President Richard MacKinnon, it’s not too often that a firefighter or paramedic gets to see a person again after giving them medical attention.

He says the gift was well received, as the girl hopped on the bike and rode it around the fire station.

The firefighters union is considering whether it should do similar presentations in the future at either Christmas time or during the year.
