Scituate: Long time Selectman Joe Norton not to seek reelection

Long time Scituate Selectman Joe Norton announced at this week’s selectmen’s meeting that he will not seek reelection this year.

Norton has decided to call it quits after an amazing 30 years as a fixture on the board of selectmen.

Norton said he’s seen the town go through many changes, since he first ran for selectman, 30 years ago.

“I’ve seen a lot of changes –hopefully most of them for the better. I think Scituate’s a better town today than it was 30 years ago – certainly not solely because of me, but because of the people that work and live in town. Someone told me today that they take great pleasure in going to functions and when people ask them where they live and they say ‘Scituate’, there’s almost unanimous envy in the room from people who say, ‘what a great town it is,’ and I share those feelings.”

Norton said he’ll find something to do, to fill the extra time after his last term as selectman.

“There is going to be a void, but all things come to an end. We’ll find something to fill that void. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll become a reporter for WATD!”
