Wareham: Police recover officer’s gun left in Wareham court bathroom

A handgun that disappeared after a Plymouth police officer inadvertently left it in a courthouse bathroom has been recovered.

Chief Michael Botieri says the gun was recovered on Wednesday afternoon, but did not say how it was tracked down. He says he does not believe the gun was fired.

Capt. John Rogers Jr. put the gun down in the bathroom of Wareham District Court at about 3 p.m. Monday, then left without it. When he went back for it minutes later, it was gone.

Chief Botieri says Capt. Rogers will face some type of discipline.

Court officers and local police, with the help of a weapon-sniffing dog, did a sweep of the courthouse and passed everyone inside through a metal detector without success.
