Braintree: Homeless man charged after fleeing police

A young homeless man with a criminal history is under arrest in Braintree.

22-year-old Ariel Cartagena was driving a handicapped-accessible van that ran a red light at the intersection of Washington and Union Streets.

Police pulled him over, and after running a check, discovered the vehicle had been stolen in Canton.

Cartagena fled on foot, jumped a fence, and was caught while trying to hop another fence.

He also has outstanding arrest warrants from Roxbury and Dorchester district courts.

It’s unclear when he’ll appear in court on the new charges.
