Brockton: Infant found with dead mother’s body in Brockton motel

(AP) — Authorities are investigating after a 13-month-old girl was found in a Brockton motel room snuggling against her dead mother’s body.

An autopsy is pending and the Plymouth district attorney’s office says the cause of death remains under investigation, although it does not appear suspicious. Police say it appears the woman died of a drug overdose.

The body of the woman in her 40s was found by emergency crews at a Super 8 at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the infant was found cuddled up against the body.

The baby was taken to the hospital for evaluation and was described as in good condition. State child welfare officials have been notified.

No names were released.
