Brockton: School Committee to interview superintendent candidate

School officials in Brockton are scheduled to begin the next step in the process to select a new superintendent of schools.  The city is looking to fill the position after its previous superintendent Dr. Matt Malone, was appointed as the state’s new Secretary of Education. Members of the committee recently voted to open the job exclusively to internal candidates.

According to school committee vice chairman Tom Minichiello, the public hearings will be held Tuesday and Thursday to interview the only person who applied for the position, Kathleen Smith. Smith, who was a runner up for the same position in 2009 was also a finalist in 2010 for the school superintendent’s job in Randolph.

Minichiello says one thing working for Smith is her knowledge of the city’s school system. The two public hearings in Brockton will be held in the Arnone School theatre and begins at 6:30pm
