Plymouth town moderator Steve Triffletti, a democrat and supporter of President Barack Obama, is reaching across the aisle and inviting Plymouth County Sheriff Joe McDonald, a republican, to participate in opening ceremonies at Town Meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Triffletti said, however, that he did not want to comment on the recent controversy when the sheriff told a joke at a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast in which Abraham Lincoln visits President Obama in a dream and suggests he go to the theater.
Lincoln was assassinated in a theater.
Democratic critics say a joke that the President might get shot was inappropriate.
Plymouth Town Meeting begins on Saturday, April 6.
