Carver: Treasurer/Collector debate turns fractious

WATD and Carver Community Access Television hosted a sometimes fractious political forum in the CCAT studio Monday night.

Carver’s two-term Treasurer/Collector Jack Franey this year has a challenger – Assistant Tax Collector Paula Nute. He’s a CPA with a maters degree in taxation, and he also serves as a Carver Selectman. She has no college experience, and is in the office during all business hours.

They disagreed on how many hours Franey works in the office and on the qualifications required for the job. They did agree that future Treasurer/Collectors be appointed, not elected, though Nute lacks the college education likely required for an appointed manager. They agreed the Treasurer/Collector should not also serve as Selectman, though Franey does.

The polls open in the Carver Annual Town Election at 8 AM Saturday, April 27th and close at 6 PM.
