Kingston: Gas leak shuts down neighborhood under construction

Kingston officials responded to a gas leak Wednesday in Indian Pond Estates.

Fire Chief Robert Heath says around 11:30a.m. firefighters arrived at Fairway Drive, where nearly two dozen homes are being developed, after receiving a call that a gas main was struck by a construction crew.

“It’s all new construction. What they were doing was digging with an excavator close to the side of the street and they dug up the gas main,” said Heath

No occupied houses are in the immediate area so construction workers at the site were the only people who had to evacuate.

Fairway Drive was shut down but was reopened in less than two-hours and Heath said everything went back to normal.
