Marshfield: Change in commercial zone off 139 proposed

Marshfield real estate developer Bill Last has proposed a change in the process of approving new projects in the Enterprise Drive area off Route 139 in Marshfield. The zoning of the commercial area has not changed since 1974, when it was an economic development dream for a woodland.

Some commercial development has happened, including the station for WATD. But, the traffic chaos of Route 139 and the difficulty entering and exiting the site has stymied more considerable development. The Commonwealth expects to complete consistent lanes and a traffic signal at Enterprise Drive next year.

Last proposes streamlining the two-step process of planning board and zoning board approvals to a single deliberation for that zone.

Town Meeting will consider Last’s proposed change in three weeks. Marshfield Selectmen endorsed it Monday night.
