Norwell: Election hours cut to legal minimum of four

On Wednesday night, Norwell Selectmen voted to limit hours of the town’s annual election to four – 10 AM to 2 PM Saturday, May 11th. Norwell Town Meeting had previously expanded the number of selectmen from three to five. Three citizens have announced for the three available seats. No other elected official has a challenger.

Town Clerk Pat Anderson asked selectmen to cut the hours, saying it would save $2,000. She said state law requires the polls open for a minimum of four hours.

Selectman Ellen Allen cast the single dissenting vote.
