Scituate: Town Meeting to focus on controversial wind turbine

At Scituate Town Meeting Monday night, residents will decide whether to shut down the town’s massive wind turbine.

It’s been only a year since the 400-foot tall turbine began operating.

A citizens petition asks the town to rescind the special permit of the turbine’s operator, which would effectively shut down the $6 million structure.

Some two dozen residents have been complaining of health issues such as insomnia, dizziness, and headaches because of the turbine.

Similar complaints have arisen in other communities, such as Kingston, where some homeowners are trying to shut down four turbines.

In Scituate, a study being paid for by the turbine owners and directed by the Board of Health, will examine whether the turbine is operating within the town’s noise specifications.
