Cohasset: State officials field school committee questions on state budget

State Senator Bob Hedlund and Representative Garret Bradley stopped by the Cohasset School Committee meeting Wednesday night, to answer questions regarding educational budget issues.

Representative Bradley informed the committee that the house side on Beacon Hill has earmarked funds for Cohasset to help shore up their school security systems.

“After consultation with your school superintendent and town administrator, (one of things I had tried to do for each of my communities was to focus, post Sandy Hook, on school security) so there’s an additional $49,800 on the house budget above these numbers, specific to Cohasset, to install video monitoring systems and visitor security systems for the safety of the students, administrators and visitors. My hope is that the senator will also be able to secure that the on the senate side”, Bradley informed the committee.

Senator Bob Hedlund then addressed the issue of chapter 70 funds, earmarked for educational aid.

“Well it remains to be seen what the senate finalizes for a number. The rumor is that the senate budget will try to provide an increase in chapter 70 education funding, but we won’t know until the week leading up to Memorial Day, when we complete our budget. Then of course it’s subject to working out differences between the house and senate”.
