Pembroke: Early morning fire causes extensive damage to clothing store

A Pembroke business under construction suffered extensive damage after an early morning fire.

Around 4a.m. Tuesday, crews responded to a fire alarm in the North River Plaza on Route-139 and found flames on the roof of Dress Barn, a women’s clothing store.

Pembroke Fire Chief James Neenan says renovation of the store’s façade was a major factor, “We believe it might’ve been a result of some late work done yesterday afternoon, demolition of some signs and electrical work; it appears that, through our investigation and the electrical inspector, that was the origin of the fire and also the cause of it.”

The fire ruined new construction work at the Pembroke clothing store and surrounding businesses were also affected. “There was some smoke damage, about three or four units on either side of it and a little bit of water damage beyond the Dress Barn but the Dress Barn took most of it,” said Chief Neenan

The clothing store is closed due to heavy water damage but other businesses in the North River Plaza have been reopened.
