Tuesday night Hanson Selectmen appointed a new police chief and announced they expect to have a new town administrator by the end of the summer.
Carver Police Chief Mike Miksch will move to the Hanson post by the end of July.
Former Hanson Town Administrator Rene Reed left to become Town Manager in Duxbury. Ron San Angelo of Naugatuck, Conn., has accepted the job in Hanson. A former Connecticut selectman, town administrator and state representative, currently an IT project manager, he told Hanson Selectmen in an interview last week he wants to return to public service on the local level.
Town meeting previously changed the elected office of Highway Surveyor, in other towns known as highway supervisor, to an appointed job. They appointed current Highway Surveyor Bob Brown to the new appointed job.
Selectmen also approved initial plans for the future unified elementary school in Hanson. The town currently has two schools that back up to one another. Last year Town Meeting approved building a new school and voters approved an override to finance it.
The new plan would raze the two buildings, construct a new school, improve drainage in the neighborhood and build new athletic fields for town-wide use.
