Hingham: Weir River Watershed collaberative begins series of forums

Wednesday night 150 people gathered in the old Derby Academy building in downtown Hingham for the first in a series of six monthly forums on the current condition and future of the Weir River Watershed.

The watershed flows from Accord Pond in Norwell to the estuary on the Hull/Hingham border, and it includes Straits Pond in Cohasett. The Aquarion water company co-sponsors the series with the Weir River Watershed Association and local land conservation trusts.

Participants learned the watershed has diminished amounts of water and degraded water quality which negatively affects wildlife habitat and recreational activities in the towns.

Elements of the two-hour program will be posted on a website still under construction. The watershed association’s website, weirriver.org will post a link.
