Middleboro: Selectman back to work after cruise ship diaster

By Alice C. Elwell

Monday night’s selectmen’s meeting was presumably a welcome relief to one member who is just returning from a disaster at sea aboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship.

Middleboro Selectman Leilani Dalpe and her husband Glenn Montapert were among the thousands of passengers who were woken to claxons sounding and instructions to prepare to abandon ship last week.

It took four hours to battle the blaze and once it was doused the ship limped back to port.

The near disaster won’t stop Dalpe and her husband from taking another cruise: they are booked for two more this year.
