Michael Blanchard fatally shot 21-year-old Stephen Erving through Erving’s first-floor bedroom window in March of 2010.

Blanchard was found guilty of second-degree murder Tuesday in Norfolk Superior Court. Judge Elizabeth M. Fahey handed down Blanchard’s sentence after Erving’s mother gave an impact statement Wednesday.

Prosecutors say the 24-year-old fired several rounds from a 9mm pistol through Erving’s window.

Erving was lying in bed when he was killed.

According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office, Blanchard and Erving had a history of conflict.
