Braintree: Police warn of phone scammers posing as power company employees

Braintree Police are warning residents of a phone scam in which the scammers are pretending to be employees of the of the local power company, calling some residents and threatening to turn off power due to non-payment of bills.

The scammers are asking for credit card numbers so the power will not be turned off.

Braintree police are advising residents that the callers are not affiliated with the Braintree Electric Light Department, or “BELD”, and if they get a call or have a question to call the main number of “BELD” at 781-348–2353.
