The woman has been identified as 65-year-old Norma DesRouche of Highland Street.

Middleboro police responded to a call just after midnight of a woman bleeding at 174 Highland Street and found her husband performing CPR on her.

They soon found out that a man with a gun was on the property. Thomas Buttimer, 52,  was seen holding a long barrel firearm as he walked in the driveway.

Buttimer was shot by police after he refused to drop his weapon. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Buttimer had been staying at DesRouche’s Middleboro home.

He’s being charged with assault with intent to murder the police and possession of a firearm.

An arraignment date has yet to be scheduled.

The incident is under investigation and anyone with information is urged to call police.
