Scituate: Donations sought for library renovation

December may seem far off, but not when you’re trying to raise $7 million.

That’s what supporters of the Scituate town library are trying to do, but they have only till year’s end to get the money needed to renovate the building.

The funding would be on top of $5 million pledged by the state.

Members of the Scituate Library Foundation are soliciting donations door-to-door and online.

And next month, the group will host a fundraiser at the Scituate Country Club.

The foundation, which has some $600,000 in the bank, also plans to seek a property tax increase through a Proposition 2 1/2 override.
