Hanover: Selectmen review town manager performance

Hanover selectmen met Monday night to go over their annual employee performance review of controversial Town Manager Troy Clarkson.

The beleaguered town manager was almost fired back in April for hiring Selectman Gary Young for the full-time job of assistant town treasurer, without first consulting the board of selectmen.

Selectman Susan Setterland summarized Clarkson’s review by highlighting positives, but also brought up the need for Clarkson to improve his communication skills with the board.

“The board is in agreement that Mr. Clarkson has met most of the goals that were established by the board this past year. The full board concurred that Troy has a thorough understanding of municipal government and he has a full understanding of his job responsibilities. He has excellent communication skills. However, the board has asked for better communication in a more timely fashion on sensitive and important issues”, she said.

The board unanimously approved a 2% raise in Clarkson’s base pay.

The town manager earns $125,000 per year and is under a 3 year contract until 2015.
