Middleboro: Man accused of trying to run down police tracked down by canine, tasered

Middleboro Police K9 Phaelan put a bite on crime Monday night after a man crashed his car into another car and fled into the woods off Route 44.

Lt. David M. Mackiewicz credits the K9 with the capture of 43-year-old Charles Riley, who was also wanted for trying to run down two Weymouth officers on Monday.

Officer Jerry Donahue and Phaelan tracked down Riley within minutes. Mackiewicz said Phaelan bit Riley when he resisted arrest. Riley was also tasered.

Riley was taken to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for treatment, but became combative in the ambulance before it left town. Mackiewicz said Riley was subdued before leg irons were necessary.

Weymouth police arrested Riley where he also faces charges.
