Norwell: New police station, athletic fields at Town Meeting

Town Meeting time? Norwell has begun to plan.

Wednesday night, selectmen approved an October 7 Special Town Meeting.

Chairman Ellen Allen identified two large topics.

First, an article will ask voters to approve an estimated $5.2 million override to build a new police station attached to the fire station off Washington Street, Route 53. The town has paid for studies to replace the current station for 10 years.

“The station we have not only doesn’t meet any of the codes, but it’s a very dangerous station,” Allen said.

Second, the Community Preservation Committee will propose using $2.9 million of its funds to build a new athletic field complex at the high school.
