Hingham: Tubing incident under investigation

The investigation continues into what is being described as a “tubing” incident on Labor Day in Hingham that seriously injured a 13 year old boy.

Police report that 4 teens – all 13 years old – were out on the water, one driving a Boston Whaler, while towing three other teens behind the boat on a tube.

One of the teens fell off the tube when the boat and tube went over a wake.

The boat operator turned around to pick up the youth and struck one of the teens, seriously injuring the boy ,leaving him with head and arm injuries.

The victim was taken to South Shore Hospital.

Police say the teens on the tube were all wearing personal floatation devices, but the operator of the boat had not completed a safety course that’s required of anyone from 12 to 16 years old to operate a motorboat that is not supervised by a person 18 years or older.
