Marshfield: Coastal Advisory Committee planning climate change forum

The Marshfield Coastal Advisory Committee has unanimously voted to sponsor an informational public forum on the effects of climate change and global warming and the impact on rising sea levels.

Marshfield Coastal Advisory Committee Vice-Chair Ben Cowie-Haskell said, “The committee has agreed to move forward on developing a forum for the public, to come and learn about these problems and potential strategies for dealing with the impacts of sea level rise on the coast.”

However Cowie-Haskell warned that the forum will not cover FEMA flood maps and flood insurance.

“It’s not about FEMA maps and that whole issue. It won’t address that at all. It’s more of an opportunity to just learn about how climate change is affecting for example our beaches, that we all love dearly here in Marshfield.”

The committee said they’d like to reach out to the towns of Duxbury and Scituate to see if they’d also like to participate.

The forum could be slated for sometime next January.
