Middleboro: Town zones for pot farms

On Tuesday Middleboro officials set a 13-mile swath of land along Route 28 in south Middleboro to be zoned for potential marijuana growers.

The area includes the adult entertainment zone and several large scale businesses including FedEx, Pavestone and Bay State Piping.

At a scarcely attended meeting, Middleboro Planning Director Ruth Geoffroy drew the boundaries of the purposed district. In their haste to zone for marijuana farms, Middleboro Selectman Stephen McKinnon said his board left out the adult entertainment zone and asked the Planning Board to amended the motion at town meeting.

Officials fear without zoning marijuana growers could site anywhere in town as long as the facility is not near a school or daycare. Town meeting will be asked to approve the measure on Oct. 7.
