Hingham, Weymouth: Robbery, carjacking suspect arrested

The second suspect wanted for an armed robbery in Weymouth and ensuing carjacking in Hingham last week has been arrested in Rhode Island. Weymouth police say they tracked 20 year old Jerry Anitus to an address in North Providence, Rhode Island.

He was being sought following the robbery of Prevites Market in Weymouth and a carjacking in Hingham, when he and his partner, 26 year old Angelo Ayuso of Dorchester, allegedly threw an 85 year old woman from her car at the Linden Ponds apartment complex. Ayuso was arrested that night.

Anitus was seen leaving the residence in North Providence around noon today and led police on a chase into Smithfield Rhode Island, where he crashed into a Smithfield police cruiser and was taken into custody.

He’s being held in Rhode Island on new charges from the chase but will eventually be returned to Massachusetts to face the robbery and carjacking charges.
