Brockton: 26-year-old pleads innocent to attempted murder on police officer

A 26-year-old Brockton man pleaded innocent Wednesday in Brockton Superior Court to charges of shooting at a Brockton police officer.

According to the Patriot Ledger, Olava S. Moreno is accused of attempted murder for an assault on an officer back in July, and Moreno reportedly ran from Centre Street, where police arrived for reports of a domestic dispute.

Neither Moreno nor the officer was injured.

Moreno is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, illegal possession of a loaded firearm and illegal discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building.

The Ledger reports, Moreno’s attorney has said that the initial call that went out on the suspect did not fir his client’s description.

Police say Drane, the officer involved, identified Moreno as the shooter at the time.

Moreno is being held without bail pending a hearing next week.
