Hanson: Voters at town meeting shoot down school proposal

More than 500 Hanson residents came out to vote at the Special Town Meeting last night.

There were 25 warrant articles to be voted on. 23 of them were approved, and one was passed over.

After several hours of heated debate, the final article on the proposed new elementary school was voted down. The article required a two-thirds vote to pass.

Ironically, the renovation of both the Indian Head and Maquan schools will cost about $34 million, opposed to the $29 million it would have cost to build the new school,  if the article had passed.
