Hingham: Elementary School goes into lockdown Thursday after report of gunman in woods

The Foster Elementary School in Hingham got a scare Thursday when someone reportedly saw a man in the woods behind the school wearing a ski-type mask and carrying a gun. The report came into police at around 3:10 p.m., and Hingham Police say they dispatched numerous officers to the scene and surrounding area as the school went into lockdown.

There were still children attending after-school programs inside at the time. Police say they found a group of kids in the woods, with one of them, a 13-year-old, found carrying an air-soft gun. That child was positively identified as the one seen carrying a gun. The air soft gun doesn’t fire bullets, but police say it was designed to look like a real gun. The child was brought back to his parents. Police say the incident is still under investigation.
