Hingham Vets Agent: Veteran group’s solicitation company not truthful about donations

Hingham’s Veterans Services says they have received about two dozen calls from residents claiming they got calls soliciting donations to Hingham Veterans groups.

The problem is, Hingham’s Veterans Agent, Keith Jermyn says no Hingham veterans groups are soliciting over the phone. But he says he did find out which group is doing the soliciting.

“The organization itself that’s listed on the form is the Vietnam Veterans of Massachusetts. They are a legitimate organization. They have an address, coincidentally, in the State House,” Jermyn says. “I’m sure they do great work. The company that they’re hiring to do their solicitation of their funding may not be so up front about what they’re doing with it.”

Jermyn says the company doing the soliciting is Focal Point Consulting out of Weymouth. A man who answered the phone at the company’s listed number refused to answer questions.

Hingham has never received any funds from this statewide veterans group, according to Jermyn. A call out to the offices of Vietnam Veterans of Massachusetts was not returned.
