Middleboro: Drugs, guns, cash and 17 pit bulls seized by Middleboro Police

Middleboro police and a SWAT team raided a home at 163 Miller Street on Wednesday and discovered 5 guns, over $50,000 in drugs, $29,000 in cash and 17 neglected pit bulls, 13 of them puppies.

Lt. Peter J. Andrade said at least two of the guns were stolen, one from Wareham, the other from Buzzards Bay.

30-year-old John Campbell, of 163 Miller St., Middleboro is being held on $500,000 bail at the Plymouth House of Correction on gun and drug trafficking charges as well as cruelty to animals.

Lt. Peter J. Andrade said Campbell, 30, has ties to New York and is not a Middleboro native.

Campbell was living in a house where Derek Maksy once lived.  Maksy often returns to visit family still living on Miller Street.  He said no one suspected there was a major drug operation doing business in the rural neighborhood.

Andrade said the pit bulls were seized and are being treated by a local veterinarian.  Campbell is under investigation by the Animal Rescue League and the Department of Family and Children. He is scheduled back in court on Oct. 22.  He is also under investigation by the Department of Family and Children.
