Rockland: Woman dies in house fire

A fatal fire in Rockland on Tuesday claims the life of a local woman. The victim has been identified as 71 year old Mary Gammon of 644 Market Street. A joint investigation with state police detectives assigned to the office of District Attorney Tim Cruz, the office of the state fire marshal, the Rockland fire department and the Rockland Police department, has determined the fire to be accidental. The fire began in the kitchen and the victim’s clothing ignited from an open flame on the stove.

A neighbor alerted authorities to come to the Market Street home when she found Mary Gammon unresponsive on the floor of the home.
