Scituate: Petition article submitted for New Driftway mixed use overlay district

Proponents of a special town meeting petition article to extend Scituate’s village business overlay district in the Greenbush area to include mixed use development appeared before the town’s advisory committee Thursday night.

South Shore Auto Parts, located on New Driftway Road across from the Greenbush T Station presented their petition article to the Scituate Advisory Committee and showed a conceptual drawing of what could possibly be built there under a mixed- use, village overlay business district.

Although there are no plans on the table, about 16 rental units could be built under the zoning proposal.

Attorney Andrew Brodsky representing South Shore Auto Parts said, “South Shore Auto Parts is one of the property owners in this portion of Scituate and they have an interest in proposing mixed-use. It makes perfect sense. We can take advantage of our access to the Greenbush line and the properties that are presenting underutilized.  It’s an opportunity to really create a vibrant village and really take advantage of this gateway into Scituate.”

The advisory committee is holding off on a recommendation until the petitioner meets next Thursday night with the planning board for their input.

Special town meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 4.
