Brockton: Balzotti will not seek a recount of election results

Days after losing her bid for a third term by 55 votes, Brockton Mayor Linda Balzotti has announced that she will not challenge the election results from November 5th.  The news comes as the city’s Elections Commission prepares for a possible recount for three other races that were decided by less than 54 votes.

The mayor had initially said that she would seek a recount. However in a statement released Friday, Balzotti says she made her decision after much consideration and consulting with election law experts, advisors and the Secretary of State’s office. She says she plans to finish her term with the same dedication that she had when she was first elected as a ward councilor 16 years ago.

Meanwhile the only candidate to pull paperwork for a recount is Ollie Spears, who fell 17 votes short of defeating Ward 5 councilor Dennis Denapoli.  Paperwork to petition for a recount must be filed by Friday, November 15th at 5pm.
