Abington: Marine returning home New Year’s Eve

(AP) – A U.S. Marine sergeant from Abington killed in Afghanistan is coming home on New Year’s Eve.

The body of Sgt. Daniel Vasselian is scheduled to return to Massachusetts on Dec. 31.

Visiting hours are set for New Year’s Day at Quealy and Son Funeral Home in Abington.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Jan. 2 at St. Bridget Church in Abington followed by burial at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

The 27-year-old Vasselian was killed in combat in Helmand province on Monday.

Vasselian had just celebrated his fourth wedding anniversary on Dec. 19.
