Brockton: Man to be arraigned on Christmas Day DUI charge

A man is scheduled to be arraigned in Brockton District court Thursday on a laundry list of charges, after a drunk driving incident on Christmas Day.

20-year-old Augusta Mims of Brockton will be arraigned Thursday on charges including DUI, Obstruction of Justice, and intimidating a witness.

Police say Mims crashed his gray Honda into a pole at 400 West St. on Wednesday, injuring 20 year old Lajada Owens-Berry.

Owens-Berry suffered head trauma, and her one year old daughter, who was also in the car, was uninjured.  Boston Medical Center says Owens-Berry is in good condition.

When police arrived on scene, they say they could smell Alcohol on Mims’ breath.

Police also say that Mims claimed Owens-Berry was driving, even though she was in the backseat.
