Stabbing suspect John Barsell

A Middleboro man’s bail was increased to $250,000 at his arrangement on Monday.

Assistant Plymouth County District Attorney Jessica Healy said John Barsell’s high bail reflects the nature of the offenses: five violent charges and three victims.

52-year-old Barsell, 49 North Main St., Apartment 2, Middleboro was on the run for a couple days after a 3 a.m. brawl on Christmas morning left two men with serious stab wounds and a woman with superficial cuts.

Witnesses told police Barsell stabbed the victims after a fight over two cases of his beer that went missing. Two of the victims were taken a Level 1 trauma center in Rhode Island.

Barsell is charged with two-counts of attempted murder and 3-counts of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His case was continued to Jan. 13 for a probable cause hearing.
