Plymouth: Selectmen to discuss FY2015 budget recommended by the Town Manager

Town Manager Melissa Arrighi has been conducting an extensive budget review process in building the FY2015 budget. And in a recent report to Selectmen, she stressed that fixed costs are growing at a rate that makes it difficult to keep the budget increase to a manageable level— one of several challenges she says the town is facing: “I think the difference in our community is that we are such a large facility or overall town that we have to run more facilities than other communities for example thirteen schools, seven fire stations—that adds up when you are running those all the time.”

Also mentioned as challenges in her report, in preparation for tonight’s budget examination, are projected rising costs for personnel, health insurance, and escalating maintenance costs. She also noted that the town has not taken advantage of some revenue sources, since Plymouth has rejected both increased fees and a meals tax. Selectmen meet tonight at 7:00 at Plymouth Town Hall.
