Weymouth: Man accused of armed robbery, carjacking arraigned

The man accused of two armed robberies and a carjacking in September is being held on $100,000 bail after being arraigned earlier this week.

20 year old Jerry Anitus allegedly used a handgun to rob a grocery store in Randolph in August then a Prevites (PREH-vuh-tees) market in Weymouth in September. Police say his accomplice, Angelo Ayuso, was caught a little while after the robbery but Anitus escaped and carjacked an elderly woman at the Linden Ponds apartment complex in Hingham, taking her keys and throwing her to the ground.

He allegedly led police on a chase down 495 that ended in a crash and Anitus running through the woods. He was captured six days later in Rhode Island. He’s expected to also be arraigned in Hingham District court to face charges related to the carjacking. He’ll be back in court on January 7.
