Los Angeles: Instrumental figure in Marciano statue construction dies

A prominent member of the boxing community with ties to southeastern Massachusetts has died.

Jose Sulaiman was president of the World Boxing Council and was a key figure in making the Rocky Marciano Statue in the boxing champ’s hometown of Brockton a reality.

Charlie Tartaglia, a member of both the Massachusetts Boxing Commission and the Marciano Statue Committee, has nothing but praise for Sulaiman, telling WATD he was “probably the finest person I ever met”.

Sulaiman is credited with getting the money needed to build the statue and overseeing its construction.

Sulaiman passed away in California on Thursday at age 82.
