Scituate: Officials discuss proposed zoning update for medical marijuana dispensaries

The Scituate Planning Board met Thursday night and discussed a proposed town meeting article that updates zoning for registered medical marijuana dispensaries.

The article would bring Scituate’s zoning by-law regulating the dispensaries into compliance with the new regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Town Planner Laura Harbottle said commercial zoning for medical marijuana facilities in Scituate, is limited to a small area along Driftway.

“A lot of it (the zoned land) is land that is publicly owned, so it couldn’t be developed this way. There are a few locations that are in kind of the ‘medical area’ of Scituate, in which there could possibly be a small office, maybe not to grow it there, but maybe just to sell it, if they could get the appropriate security system and everything else they need.”

The planning board continues the hearing on the zoning article March 27.
