South Shore: Weekend storm could bring blizzard conditions

A new winter storm is looming for Massachusetts this weekend. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for eastern Massachusetts along and east of the Interstate 95 corridor, including the Boston area.

A blizzard watch has been issued for coastal areas of Plymouth County and the North Shore, Cape Cod and nearby islands, where winds up to 35 mph could gust to 50 mph. Read Rob Gilman’s most recent local forecast.

Eight to 10 inches of snow is possible in coastal southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod, with 6 to 8 inches in the Boston area and Cape Ann, and 4 to 6 inches to the northwest. Lighter amounts are expected in central and western Massachusetts, where around a foot of snow fell during Thursday’s storm. The new snow is expected to begin Saturday afternoon and evening and wind down Sunday morning.
