Marshfield: Town administrator presents library renovation proposal

Marshfield’s town administrator updated the board of selectmen Monday night, regarding plans to renovate the town library and add other town departments at the Library Plaza site.

The plan would utilize the space at the vacant boys and girls club to renovate the library and add space for the Marshfield food pantry, recreation department and post learning program.

Town Administrator Rocco Longo told the board of selectmen, “This is a project that’s coming before the annual town meeting voters as part of the capital budget. I believe the board is aware that the capital budget committee already voted to support this project.”

There are two slightly different renovation proposals currently on the table. The board of selectmen would select the final proposal, estimated to cost about $2.5 million.

“$2.5 million – and it’s an estimate – but it’s enough that if we go to town meeting and are successful, we will then get the building designed, the board will make a final decision on the iteration on which you prefer, and we can bring those groups to the meeting,” Longo said.
